Teaching about “Space” and the planets

Today I spent a little time helping out another teacher with resources for teaching about the planets. I thought I’d take a moment and just share here too…. This is fascinating stuff for kids of all ages and if you can get them doing any of the following, you’ll be successful.

1. Project – get groups to make posters and present on one of the planets. Great practice for numbers!

2. Make a mobile. Students cut and paste and make a living mobile for the classroom…

3. Students plan a trip. Provide them with a list of items they can take BUT they can only take half of them. See what they choose! Here’s one for Mars.

4. Make a time capsule. Students must decide what 10 items they want to put into the classroom’s time capsule.

This is only a start but visit many of the links below for some great presentations and games to teach about the planets! Many of these come from Larry Ferlazzo’s list HERE.

This video is a great way to engage students and first get them thinking about the topic. Award winning!
